WHERE TO FIND ME:
NOVEMBER 15-16, 2025 – attending the Inagural Quasar: SFWA’s Fall Online Nebula Event
JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2026 – Teaching: “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Interiority”
(MetroWest Writers’ Guild, 4 weeks, $100)
Being able to reflect your character’s interiority is a crucial skill in making that character feel believable and alive. It allows the reader feel they’re with the character personally rather than watching from a distance. But…
- What exactly is interiority? And what isn’t interiority?
- Why do we need it and what does it accomplish?
- When should we use it?
- How much should there be?
In this class, we’ll take a comprehensive look at the different types of interiority and the many techniques and methods to achieve it, including looking at examples from authors in a variety of genres. We’ll also discuss interiority in relation to point of view and authorial voice. Finally, we’ll have a chance to try some of these techniques out in exercises and discuss them in class.
